What’s new in iOS 15.2?
Last week, Apple introduced the latest update, which includes the brand-new App Privacy Report feature, which will help increase transparency for mobile device users on how and when 3rd party apps are accessing and collecting their data. Information the report provides will allow users to see how often apps access data from their device, from location, to camera, microphone, and more.
There are 2 key sections to the App Privacy Report: Data & Sensor Access and Network Activity.
Data & Sensor Access lets you know when apps have accessed the following:
- Media Library
You’ll be able to see when and how often each data source has been accessed by the apps on your device.
Network Activity will allow you to know which domains have been accessed by the apps on your device in the last 7 days. This will include not only internal domains for the app providers themselves, but also third-party websites and services which are accessed, such as tracking or analytics tools.
How do iOS 15.2 and the App Privacy Report impact mobile marketing?
With this new release, it’s as good a time as ever to review how your app accesses, collects and makes use of your user data. Users are now more conscious than ever of their privacy online, so making sure that your mobile marketing strategy takes this into account is essential in the modern world.
For example, if you’re storing location information, ensure your geo-targeted marketing is highly-relevant, timely and most of all, valuable for your user in order to both retain the user and show the value of sharing some data with your platform.
